Art with Mrs. O'Neill

I decided to try a little adult painting class with our rossview staff this week & it was a lot of fun! We did a Christmas version of starry night & I thought everyone did a wonderful job. 

I can thank Pinterest for this great project. I found an old dictionary that was about to be thrown away & instead of trashing it we used the pages in art! Students drew an owl on a book page, outlined in black, then colored in & glued it to a black construction paper & created a border around the page. This was a very quick, easy, & successful art lesson .... I love the results!

This mornings ceremony went fantastic! We had just enough wind for the pinwheels to spin and the rain held off. The kids are always very excited about this project and it is beautiful to hear them sing about peace. We have about 1,200 pinwheels spinning this year!

Every year we celebrate the international day of peace by participating in pinwheels for peace. All of our students have created a pinwheel that we will place outside our school building. This is to make our statement about bringing peace to the world. Here is my bulletin board about the event. More pics of the ceremony will be up soon!

It's always fun to come up with new displays every year. Here are a few pictures of the art room this year. I really have to thank Pinterest and art with mr. E for a lot of the ideas I've used!

Teaching the art elements shape & color to kindergarten. It's always fun teaching them painting techniques & they think the oil pastel resist is magic! We read "the dot" and look at Wassily Kandinsky's circle paintings, then students create their own.
