Art with Mrs. O'Neill

​5th graders have been working on drawing and filling their composition fully in the style of Georgia OKeeffe. We also discuss the importance of her artwork during the womens rights movement.  They did a great job drawing and most students outlined in liquid glue (tinted with liquid watercolor) then the next class period students used pastels.  I encouraged them to work on construction paper that was the opposite color of their final piece so they would have strong contrasts.  I am so proud of my 5th graders hard work! 

It’s  always fun coming up with a good back to school bulletin board to welcome our students. Just finished this cute Cactus themed board! 

​Earlier in the year students created beautiful self portraits. Everyone had a mirror and we learned about proportions and adding detail. I loved seeing their personalities shine through their portraits! 

​I had a blast teaching an intermediate ceramics class at Cheekwood. The students were ages 11-14 & made some amazing works of art! 

​4th and 5th graders learned perspective drawing techniques using a vanishing point. They then added an aquarium or other scene above. I saw some very creative ideas! 

Last year was no doubt the hardest year teaching I’ve ever experienced. Teaching on a cart is very difficult and made me much more grateful for my beautiful classroom! 

I am blessed to have an amazing art room with lots of natural light and beautiful windows. Several friends had tagged me on a picture on facebook with a paint can window treatment, so I just had to try it! I am loving the results! I just asked our cafeteria manager to save me the large cans and our custodian drilled some holes for me to hang them. I have also included my door decoration, which I created with ideas inspired by T. Matthews blog. Thanks for the inspiration!
