Native American Sunset Art

Image
I've done a unit on native Americans with k-2 this year and students have enjoyed learning about the culture. We read the book The Legend of the Indian Paintbrush and used it as our inspiration to create these beautiful sunset paintings.

Letter Art

Image
I am trying a new lesson using the artist Stuart Davis as inspiration. The kids have really enjoyed playing around with letters and I used it to teach positive and negative space, composition, and resist techniques with oil pastel. We simply traced dye cut letters and numbers with oil pastel, students colored in interesting spaces with overlapping letters and negative areas. some chose to add patterns. Here are some of the works in progress, final pictures will be on display in May at our annual Arts in school night!

Youth Art Month

Image
March is youth art month for our school system & it's time for the annual art display at the Clarksville Montgomery County Public Library. It was extremely hard to choose because I can only pick a few pieces & have 1200 students! Here are the pictures of our rossview artists' work...

Super heroe project

Image
Third grade has had a ton of fun designing their own super heroes. I found this awesome idea for a bulletin board display to showcase some of their work.

A starry Christmas night for teachers!

Image
I decided to try a little adult painting class with our rossview staff this week & it was a lot of fun! We did a Christmas version of starry night & I thought everyone did a wonderful job.

The wise old owl

Image
I can thank Pinterest for this great project. I found an old dictionary that was about to be thrown away & instead of trashing it we used the pages in art! Students drew an owl on a book page, outlined in black, then colored in & glued it to a black construction paper & created a border around the page. This was a very quick, easy, & successful art lesson .... I love the results!

Pinwheels for peace 2013

Image
This mornings ceremony went fantastic! We had just enough wind for the pinwheels to spin and the rain held off. The kids are always very excited about this project and it is beautiful to hear them sing about peace. We have about 1,200 pinwheels spinning this year!
