Art with Mrs. O'Neill

Third graders just finished these gorgeous mixed media lions. We used some scrap paper to collage the mane & the kids used oil pastel to draw & color the lions face. 

3rd grade students did African art projects. We learned about the many fiber arts of Africa, made plaster masks, and Tribal art. Some of the teachers even created projects with their individual classes!

I found this idea online & thought it looked like a lot of fun. The kids really enjoyed the 3-d effect & they always love learning about Vincent Van Gogh. we studied a little of his life history & took our inspiration from his bedroom at Arles painting & the chair with the pipe. 

Third grade has been working on a peacock project thst is turning out great. I did a modified version of a lesson on Deep Space Sparkles blog. Students are using metallic paints and metallic oil pastel. I can't wait to see the final results! 

This is a glimpse at some of our 3rd graders work for the pop art sandwich project we used for arts night.  Students were given an introduction to pop art & are using collage to create their own pop art themed sandwiches.

There was so much artwork for our annual art show that it will take me a while to get all of our pictures up. Here are a few from our 3rd grade hallway displays. This grade level did the 60's and 70's theme. We created super hero art, pop art sandwiches, and Stuart Davis themed work.
