Tints & shades ice cream collage

Image
I found this lesson while on Pinterest & just had to try it. The kids did a great job & the Art turned out fabulous! We spent our 1st lesson learning about mixing tints & shades. I had students fold a 12x18 paper into 8 sections. Then they painted each section a different tint or shade. Each table had a different color & black & white to mix with. The 2nd class was spent cutting their painted paper into scoops. They stacked the scoops & some added toppings from our scrap paper. Kids always love dessert as the subject for their artwork & they had a lot of fun with this project

This is a glimpse at some of our 3rd graders work for the pop art sandwich project we used for arts night.  Students were given an introduction to pop art & are using collage to create their own pop art themed sandwiches.

Toilet paper sculpting!

Image
Yes, that is the correct title of this post! Earlier this year I went to a workshop where one of the ideas was to sculpt with toilet paper. The trick is to barely wet one side of the paper then let the water soak or seep into the toilet paper. You can shape it, let dry, & when it dries it will hold its shape & can be painted. I decided to teach pop art and Wayne Theibaud with this lesson. So, 5th grade students are creating their favorite food. This is still a project in progress....more pics soon! I started everyone with sculpting a simple egg, then we painted them green & various other colors. The timing worked out great for Dr. Suess read across America!

How do you like your eggs?

Since next week is read across America week, our school has Dr. Seuss activities planned for each day and I set up my March bulletin board displaying green foods & different colored egg & ham sculptures as a little twist on green eggs and ham. I'm excited over the final product, and the kids really enjoyed the food art they created for the display.

Starry Night Cupcakes

Every now and then I dabble in creative baking... This was a very fun decoration I did for my daughters class when I went to teach a Starry Night lesson. Tasted pretty good with all that icing!
