Arts in school Art Show

Image
In May we always have our annual school art show. This year we did continents as a theme and each grade level studied about different cultures and their art. Art club made hot air balloons out of paper mache and had toilet paper food sculptures. So, we turned the art room into a cafe! Here are some pictures of our fabulous art show! Toilet paper food! Kindergarten projects were aboriginal dot paintings, masks, and x-ray baramunda fish

Kindergarten cat hat

In kindergarten classes we are reading cat books of all kinds...Pete the cat, & bad kitty seem to be the favorites. students created a 3-D cat"hat". Some used the paper cat sculptures as puppets, or just pals to set next to them on the tables.  This is always a fun project, but does require a little prep work on the teachers end. I pre-draw white lines for the body, tail, feet, & head. Students decorate their cat using construction paper crayons & metallic crayons & then practice those cutting skills!  I prefer to staple the cat together & can do it pretty quick as students complete their cutting. They can glue pieces instead of stapling but with staples there's no drying time.

April showers

Kindergarten did some really cute rainy day drawings. We read the story "Rain Drop Plop", then students drew themselves under an umbrella. We used oil pastel to add color & a white pastel for raindrops. Then students did a blue wash over the picture to show our raindrop resist! Fun lesson & I love the personality that shows in the kids art!

Teaching the art elements shape & color to kindergarten. It's always fun teaching them painting techniques & they think the oil pastel resist is magic! We read "the dot" and look at Wassily Kandinsky's circle paintings, then students create their own.

Here is a pic of a " kindergarten Kandinsky " wall from our arts in school night. In this lesson we learned about shape, color & painting with watercolor using oil pastel as a resist. Wassily Kandinsky is our inspiration. Love the color results!

5 Little Pumpkins

Image
I found this adorable Pumpkin lesson on Ms.NelsonsClass.com. Our Kindergarten and First grade just went on a field trip to the pumpkin patch. So, I've been looking for a good pumpkin art  lesson to do with them and I found this little gem.... I know a lot of art teachers stray away from doing the more "crafty" Holiday artworks. But I still have all of my daughters little holiday pics like this and we hang them up when the holiday rolls around. Plus, this lesson was great for teaching collage and helps the kids who need to work on fine motor skills.
