Positive & negative Space Notan Art

Image
I love the vibrancy that art tissue gives to artwork and this is one of my favorite projects to do using bleeding art tissue.  I precut squares of tissue and have students apply it to their papers with water (the more water the better) I tell them. I encourage them to think about color choices or even have them choose to work with warm or cool colors, etc.  We leave it and allow the tissue to dry on the paper. The next class we use the paper we created to make a Notan or other collage on black paper. The bright  colors are very striking against the black background!

5th grade Georgia OKeeffe style art

Image
5th graders have been working on drawing and filling their composition fully in the style of Georgia OKeeffe. We also discuss the importance of her artwork during the womens rights movement.  They did a great job drawing and most students outlined in liquid glue (tinted with liquid watercolor) then the next class period students used pastels.  I encouraged them to work on construction paper that was the opposite color of their final piece so they would have strong contrasts.  I am so proud of my 5th graders hard work!

perspective aquariums

4th and 5th graders learned perspective drawing techniques using a vanishing point. They then added an aquarium or other scene above. I saw some very creative ideas!

Dream Catcher Art Lesson

Image
I tried this GREAT Dream Catcher art Lesson I saw on: http://elementaryartfun.blogspot.com/2016/03/dream-catchers.html Thank you to the Smart Art Class Blog for the inspiration! I had to share the results I got with my students on this project. We didn't have compasses so students used various sized circles to trace and make their circles. We traced with sharpie, colored in chosen areas with construction paper crayons and then dripped liquid watercolor over a wet paper. Some students chose to sprinkle salt for the additional effect it creates.

Last one...Arts in school night

4th grade learned about South American art and was one of my favorites because the artwork turned out so colorful! we did bird masks, weavings, Tropical bird paintings, and metapec suns. 5th graders did north America and their projects also turned out very colorful. They studied Georgia O'Keeffe, Andy Warhol, we made industrial cityscapes, and Birch Tree forests.  5th grade artwork....
